Herbal Preparations at Home - One Day Course
Our most popular course. This is a hands-on course showing how to make high quality products in your own kitchen. Includes instructions, handouts and materials for salves, tinctures, syrups, oils and more. Offered several times throughout the year.

Colorado Plateau Herbal Intensive
Join us for a week long exploration of medicinal and edible plants of the Colorado Plateau and the Mogollon Rim Country. This course is a combination of indoor activities and lecture and outdoor, hands on, field experience. The traditional health benefits of 50+ plants will be covered during field trips along with a dozen delicious foods from the forest, riparian and high desert life zones.
Classroom time will be used to make our own batches of high quality herbal preparations such as salves, syrups and tinctures. Introductory classes will be given on interpreting plant chemistry and understanding ways to use plant families, genera and species. The majority of the time will be spent outdoors, in a variety of life zones, learning about the plants in their native environment.
The focus of this course is on practical, useable information and skills that are based on long term traditional uses and modern research. No prior plant or herbal experience is required.

Winter Herbal Health Course
Join us for evening classes that focus specifically on staying healthy during the coldest time of year. This course presents detailed herbal approaches for colds, flu, sore throat, coughs, sinus, and earaches. In addition, hands-on instruction is given for making your own tinctures, cough syrups, steam inhalation, and essential oil formulas. In keeping with the ‘Bio-Regional Herbalism’ theme of our school, special emphasis is given to using local plants from the southwest.

Plant Walks
These outdoor activities are designed to provide students with a hands-on, direct interaction with the natural world. Experience has shown this is the very best way to learn about the flora in your area. These walks take place at several locations and elevations throughout Arizona and the Colorado Plateau. While the hiking distance is often minimal, the terrain can sometimes be rocky.
These walks can be either a half day or full day. Plant walks are easily customized for specific groups of any age.

The Yin and Yang of Chinese Medicine
Have you ever wondered what the yin-yang symbol is all about? What the truth is behind the ginseng craze? What does ‘chi' actually refer to? And what does all this have to do with you, your health and life in general?
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is often presented in the West as something mysterious, exotic and mystical. This course is designed to explain some very essential and helpful principles in a way that is easily understood for students coming from a more Western, scientific background.
Traditional Chinese Medicine can explain the very essential principles of herbal medicine and botantical studies.
The principles taught will all build on one another so that you will have workable knowledge of this ancient healing system.
Students will learn how to use herbs both from the Chinese and Western herbal traditions according to basic TCM principles. Information will also be given about many the ‘patent medicines', formulas from China that have a long record of effectiveness from several hundreds of years ago.
This Chinese Medicine course is appropriate for both total beginners and those that have some background in the Asian healing arts and want to deepen their understanding.

Ayurveda for Healers
