This 5 hour workshop bridges ancient alchemical wisdom with modern ecological science, phytochemistry and hands-on medicine-making.
We begin by imagining alchemy not as an outdated chemistry or solely of an esoteric tradition, but as a living, Earth-based language—an ecological science that speaks through the sulfur, nitrogen, and carbon cycles, and through the elemental forces of the natural world.
We’ll explore how the roots of alchemical techniques such as distillation and calcination were first inspired by witnessing the Earth’s own processes—storms, decomposition, fire, water, and transformation.
Alongside this, participants will be introduced to the Spagyric Path, a laboratory-based approach to herbal medicine that honors the wholeness of the plant: body, soul, and spirit.
This exciting extraction method is an ancient potent tradition in which we create full spectrum extracts.
Through both philosophical reflection and grounded scientific exploration, we’ll walk step-by-step through the complete spagyric extraction process, from initial herbal extraction to calcination and recombination.
Using diagrams, flowcharts, a partial live demonstration and examples of the equipment used, we’ll learn how plant matter is transformed into mineral salts, how essential oils and alcohols represent aspects of soul and spirit, and how their reunion creates potent, full-spectrum medicine.
This class is accessible and empowering—designed to show that anyone can engage in this process at home, in a kitchen, or in community.
We’ll break down phytochemistry, optimal solvents for various constituents, and how this ancient method aligns with true sustainable healing by respecting the intelligence of both plants and planet.
Whether you are an herbalist, alchemist, ecologist, or curious seeker, this immersive experience offers a rare integration of science, spirit, and practice.
Instructor Bio
Raised across from an arboretum, Maureen (Mo) Judith was shaped by the quiet intelligence of plants, ecosystems, and wild places.
A lifelong student of nature, they began studying herbalism and foraging at a young age, drawn not only to local ecologies but also to the ways life expresses itself across the globe.
Their path has led through reef systems, rivers, and remote landscapes.
She spent 5 years hitchhiking around the world, seeking to learn from the Earth and those that still speak her language.
It was in Africa that she first came across the concept of Spagyrics.
Today, she runs Aura La Voura, a project and laboratory dedicated to reviving alchemical herbalism as both an ecological and spiritual practice.
Their work scratches the surface of a new kind of research—one that bridges traditional wisdom and modern science, ritual and chemistry, plant and planet.
